Product Safety and Sustainability Senior Manager, GOJO Industries

Antonio Quiñones-Rivera, Ph.D., is the Product Safety and Sustainability Senior Manager for GOJO Industries. Since 2014, Antonio provides product safety, sustainability, and toxicology leadership for both on-going business and new product development with an emphasis on cosmetic and OTC Drug products. He also leads the sustainable chemistry implementation team.

Antonio has a broad range of professional experience in regulatory toxicology and environmental science. He served as an environmental scientist at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) in Atlanta, GA, where he conducted human exposure assessments for communities impacted by environmental contaminants. More recently, he conducted chemical risk assessments to ensure product safety and regulatory compliance at Ashland Chemical, in Dublin, Ohio,

Antonio holds a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in environmental science from the University of Puerto Rico. He graduated from Cornell University with a Ph.D. in environmental toxicology.

Imagine you are at a breakfast buffet at a hotel (the pandemic is over), and you see a simple glass bottle of milk for your use, with no markings. You pour some milk on your cereal and splash a bit into your coffee. Later in the day, you learn that each morning the serving staff 'tops off' that bottle with milk from other containers, without ever emptying it or washing it. Over the course of weeks, with customers taking many, many milk servings from that bottle, the staff kept topping it off. How would you feel about the milk that you had been served that morning? And the next morning, would you again put milk from that bottle on your cereal?
